Designing new Forms

When designing a WordFusion Form, starting with a blank Form provides the most flexibility and allows you to create a design that best fits your needs.

1. Add controls to the Form

You can add functionality to your Form by inserting fields. The Fields toolbox provides access to all of the controls and fields available in InfoPath. You can add controls and fields to your form either by clicking them and drawing them on the design area. Based on the type of controls and fields you add to your Form, users filling out your Form will be able to type text into text fields, make selections from option buttons and check boxes, choose entries from lists, and click command buttons to carry out commands.

2. Bind controls to a Field Name

Fields on a Form are bound to a field name. This allows the data that users type into the form to be saved in Answer Files. WordFusion automatically creates the fields and groups for you when you add fields to a new, blank Form. You can view the fields and their main properties in the Field preview window.

3. Write Script

Fields can have script assigned to them that runs at Assemble time when the user triggers that event. Different Field Types have different events to choose from. To create a script for a selected field the user can either click "F7" when the field is selected in the designer or click the script tab. With the script tab selected then user then selects the Field from the Field dropdown and then selects an event from the event dropdown.

4. Save the Form

While you can save the Form you are designing to your local hard drive at any time, you must save your finished Form to a shared location in order to make it available to other users. Before you save  your Form, you should test it to make sure it looks and works as expected. In the Design Sudio , you can use the Test Form command to view your Form exactly as it will appear to users who are filling it out.
